Manejo y explotación de las colonias de abejas meliponas en Cuba

Abstract
Esté trabajo aborda los aspectos más relevantes del alucinante mundo de las abejas sin aguijón, al que pertenecen nuestras abejas meliponas. Con el mismo se pretende brindar información general sobre su manipulación, explicar los métodos utilizados para la multiplicación de las colonias y las técnicas de extracción de miel, polen y propóleos, así como demostrar que con el manejo y las técnicas que se exponen pueden lograr resultados superiores a los alcanzados hasta hoy por el país. Para lograr estos objetivos se realiza un estudio descriptivo, prospectivo durante 20 fructíferos años, de trabajo e investigación con 60 colmenas de abejas meliponas pertenecientes al apicultor Luis Miguel Pérez Días en el Municipio de Fomento. Mediante la aplicación de las técnicas que aquí se exponen, se han logrado excelentes resultados, los que se evidencian en los volúmenes y calidad de las producciones obtenidas. Por medio de este estudio se concluyó, que es necesario poseer una amplia información acerca de las características, manipulación, técnicas de multiplicación y extracción de miel, polen y propóleos de las colonias de abejas meliponas, ya que del grado de capacitación del meliponicultor, su experiencia y dedicación, dependen los resultados que se obtienen en esta rama.
