Hydroalcoholic extract of red cuban propolis for bioactive films
Main Article Content
Abstract
The addition of bioactive extracts inside the polymeric matrix of biodegradable films contributes to the reduction of some environmental problems but also; enhance the antimicrobials and antioxidant properties of extracts from natural origin to be used in active packaging. Cuba has typical vegetable formations of tropical areas, within a high percentage of endemic plants, making available a peculiar chemical composition of propolis to others of different geographical origins. The antibacterial and antioxidant compounds in chemical composition of Cuban red propolis could be used in controlled release systems to food preservation. The objective of this work was measure the antioxidant capacity of corn starch film contained red Cuban propolis extract by the FRAP method and its grade of lipid inhibition in a model system by means of the method of tiobarbituric acid TBA. The antioxidant capacity obtained was 319,86 (S= 1,18) μM /100 g expressed like ion ferric oxidation and 21 % of lipid oxidation inhibition.
